I decided to go with this idea of desensitization. And not the healthy kind that gets rid of a fear of spiders. I'm talking about social media's desensitization of violence, hate, and sad stories because, like many others, I go through it myself.

When I'm scrolling on social media and see a heartbreaking story about a child who died of cancer and two parents who lost their jobs and everything to take care of their child, I shouldn't be able to scroll away and laugh at a funny video. It just isn't normal. School shootings don't even make the big news anymore because they are so common. It's heartbreaking.

I decided to go with a phone-shaped zine to emphasize our main source of where we get this desensitization. I plan on adding a large social media app icon, that looks fun and inviting. I mean that's what they all look like anyways. Then for the bottom description, I put damage. A simple explination of the apps. Then for the back, there will be a large camera to represent what we all use to capture sad or happy moments. Then the logo is a spiral to show how these devices capture and pull us in.
I'm interested in how the class will view and perceive my zine. I hope it just spreads awareness because I know my single-ditch effort won't stop anything or anyone. Just hoping to know people will be aware of what it does and how it affects us.
